In the early hours of February 18, around 02:02 local time (equivalent to 01:02 universal time), a fireball flew over the sky of Cáceres.

This event was registered with the SMART Project’s detectors operated at Calar Alto (Almería), Sierran Nevada (Granada), La Sagra (Granada), Seville, Huelva, El Aljarafe and La Hita (Toledo) observatories.

Two of the external cameras located at Calar Alto Observatory, in Almería, also followed this object.

February 15th 2022

Last February 14 evening, the skies of Jaén province, in southern Spain, have witnessed a new bright fireball that happened at 20h59 UT just in between the cities of Jaén and Úbeda.

SMART Project’s detectors operated at Calar Alto (Almería), Sierra Nevada (Granada), La Sagra (Granada), Huelva, El Aljarafe, Seville and La Hita (Toledo), registered this event.

Calar Alto Observatory in Almería also could follow this object with its external cameras.

A bright fireball flew above the skies of Toledo and Ciudad Real provinces in Castilla La Mancha region (mid-south Spain) last February 11th at 02h26 UT.

This event was registered with the SMART Project’s detectors operated at Calar Alto (Almería), Sierran Nevada (Granada), La Sagra (Granada), Seville, Huelva, El Aljarafe and La Hita (Toledo) observatories.

Two of the external cameras located at Calar Alto Observatory, in Almería, also followed this object.

February 10th 2022

Once again, the Calar Alto cameras have recorded the impressive fireball that was generated as a result of the re-entry into the atmosphere of a Starlink-1668 satellite on February 10, at around 8:51 p.m. local time (equivalent to 7:51 p.m. universal).

The satellite had a mass of 260 kg and was launched on the Falcon 9 by SpaceX on October 6, 2020.

This phenomenon was recorded in the framework of the SMART project, operated by the Southwestern Europe Meteor Network (SWEMN) from the meteor-observing stations located at Calar Alto, Sierra Nevada, Sevilla, La Sagra (Granada), Huelva, El Aljarafe, and La Hita (Toledo).

January 30th 2022

Two bright fireballs have been registered with the SMART Project’s detector.

First fireball happened above north of Spain at 23h26 UT of January 29th and was registered with detectors located at Calar Alto (Almería), El Guijo (Madrid), La Sagra (Granada), Huelva, Seville, El Aljarafe and La Hita (Toledo).

Second one above north Morocco skies took place at 02h16 UT could be registered with detectors operated at Calar Alto (Almería),  Sierra Nevada (Granada), La Sagra (Granada), Seville, Huelva, El Aljarafe and La Hita (Toledo).

Both events were also registered with some of the external cameras operated at Calar Alto Observatory in Almería.
