A new bright fireball flew the skies between provinces of Seville and Cordoba in south Spain. This event took place on last December 7th at 01h13 UT.
The object was registered with the SMART Project’s detectors operated at Calar Alto (Almería), Sierra Nevada (Granada), La Sagra (Granada), La Hita (Toledo), Seville, Aljarafe, Huelva and Madrid observatories.
This time, two of the external cameras located at Calar Alto Observatory in Almería could also follow this fireball.
The fireball happened between Seville and Córdoba provinces in Andalusia (South Spain).
Professor José María Madiedo (Instituto de Astrofísica de Andalucía IAA-CSIC), IP of SMART Project, has done the previous analysis, and his conclusions are as follow:
- Event type: asteroidal
- Estimated speed: 90.000 km/h
- Initial altitude: 105
- Final altitude: 58 km

Calar Alto (CAHA) fireball detection station, together with the one at the Observatory of Sierra Nevada (IAA-CSIC) and others placed at different locations in Spain, are part of the S.M.A.R.T. project led by Professor José María Madiedo (IAA) to track that kind of objects. Specifically, Calar Alto (CAHA) station and the one at Sierra Nevada (IAA-CSIC) constitute a collaboration agreement between the IAA researcher José María Madiedo and both institutions.
