The same day as previous event (December 7th), but this occasion at 21h31 UT, another spectacular fireball illuminates the skies of Granada (South Spain)
The phenomena was registered with the SMART Project’s detector located at the observatories of Calar Alto (Almería), Sierra Nevada (Granada), La Sagra (Granada), and Seville.
Two of the external cameras of Calar Alto Observatory in Almería, also registered this event.
As in the past, Professor José María Madiedo (Instituto de Astrofísica de Andalucía IAA-CSIC), has carried out the preliminary analysis of this event. He has finally concluded the following facts about the fireball:
- Event type: asteroidal
- Estimated Speed: 86.000 km/h.
- Initial altitude: 101 km
- Final altitude: 32 km
Below are the two videos registered with the Calar Alto Observatory external cameras.
Calar Alto (CAHA) fireball detection station, together with the one at the Observatory of Sierra Nevada (IAA-CSIC) and others placed at different locations in Spain, are part of the S.M.A.R.T. project led by Professor José María Madiedo (IAA) to track that kind of objects. Specifically, Calar Alto (CAHA) station and the one at Sierra Nevada (IAA-CSIC) constitute a collaboration agreement between the IAA researcher José María Madiedo and both institutions.
