Very nice fireball, the third of the year and again above Andalucía (South Spain) skies on February 6th 2020.

It’is the third fireball that flew above Andalusian’s skies (South Spain) since this 2020 began.

This occasion, the fireball flew above Jaén province at 00:21 UT (01:21 local time) of February 6^th 2020.

The event could be registered with the SMART Project’s detector at Sevilla and La Hita (Toledo) observatories, and with the north surveillance webcam operated at Calar Alto Observatory in Almería.

Following the preliminary analysis carried out by Professor José María Madiedo (Instituto de Astrofísica de Andalucía IAA-CSIC), this event had an asteroidal origin.

The luminous phenomena started at an altitude of about 85 km above Jaén (South Spain) province. The fireball then moved northwestward and finished at an altitude of 30 km above the ground. The calculated speed was of about 108.000 km/h.

Calar Alto (CAHA) fireball detection station, together with the one at the Observatory of Sierra Nevada (IAA-CSIC) and others placed at different locations in Spain, are part of the S.M.A.R.T. project led by Professor José María Madiedo (IAA) to track that kind of objects. Specifically, Calar Alto (CAHA) station and the one at Sierra Nevada (IAA-CSIC) constitute a collaboration agreement between the IAA researcher José María Madiedo and both institutions.
