Perseids shower associated fireball on August 13th 2019

On August 13th 2019, at 20:08 UT (22:08 Local time) a nice fireball associated with Perseid Shower could be registered with the SMART detectors located at Calar Alto (Almería), Sierra Nevada (Granada), La Sagra (Granada), La Hita (Toledo) and Sevilla Observatories.

This object was also recorded with one of the Calar Alto Observatory (Almería) surveillance webcam.

Professor José María Madiedo (University of Huelva) PI of the SMART Project made the preliminary analysis which states that this fireball had cometary origing (Comet Swift-Tuttle, Perseids Shower).

The luminous phenomena started at an altitude of about 130 km and finished  at an altitude of 81 km above the ground. Its speed was about 210.000 km/h.

As can be seen on the left picture, the fireball started above the skies of Ciudad Real province (South Spain), moving then southwestward and crossing Jaen and Málaga provinces where it finally ends.

Calar Alto (CAHA) fireball detection station, together with the one at the Observatory of Sierra Nevada (IAA-CSIC) and others placed at different locations in Spain, are part of the S.M.A.R.T. project led by Professor José María Madiedo (University of Huelva) to track that kind of objects. Specifically, Calar Alto (CAHA) station and the one at Sierra Nevada (IAA-CSIC) constitute a collaboration agreement between Professor Madiedo and both institutions.
