Fig. 3b-x : PPAK Fiber Bundle:
Geometrical layout and size of the central hexagonal IFU (331 fibers) and
six surrounding sky fiber bundles (each consisting of 6 fibers). Only open
plot symbols are optically active fibers, filled circles are indicating
auxiliary fibers which were employed in the manufacturing process for
mechanical reasons.
Note that contrary to the lens array, which provides a contiguous spatial sampling with
negligible edge effects between adjacent lenses, the PPAK bundle has gaps
between each fiber and its next neighbours. It is, however, possible to fill
these gaps by repeated observations with small offsets (dithering).
